Sonoma California - Travel Guide into the Great Wine Country
Some
believe that the greatest joys in life are fine food, wine, and company. A visit to Sonoma
provides all of these enjoyments in overflowing abundance. Sonoma's booming wine industry
began when a Hungarian immigrant, Col. Agoston Haraszthy, moved to Sonoma in the mid-1800s.
His research convinced him that Sonoma could produce wines of an equal or greater caliber
than those from Europe. Haraszthy opened Buena Vista Winery upon his return to California,
and many other individuals followed suit. By 1876, Sonoma Valley wineries were producing more
than 2.3 million gallons of wine annually. Today, people journey to Sonoma to taste its award-winning
wines and glimpse its verdant vineyards.
